We had an amazing time touring Amsterdam city - the canal city tour was very informative and interesting.
I went on the boat tour only not the bus tour. The boat had a roof to cover from the rain and windows which you can open and close so you can see more clearly and get photos. It also has headphones so you can listen to information about the things you pass though it is not very clear where the things they say are. They also have an app to track the boats and busses but it is quite inaccurate and you can’t see some of them sometimes when the gps disconnects.
This is one of the best ways to get around the center of Amsterdam, in my opinion. There are around 6 stops and wait times were very short, less than 30 minutes, during the month of May. It was also very relaxing to cruise around the canals while exploring the city center.
Pros: We took the boat cruise and you have 7 stops around the city and you can visit plenty of places and spend as much time as you want and take the next boat. They are about 25 to 30 minutes apart. As long as you know when the last boat is, you can use your tickets for 24 hours from your start time, so we encourage you to take it mid-day and use it the next day, since in May it rains mostly in the afternoon in our experience. Cons: Unless you got cell service and use their QR code on the map, the times when the boats come by are not exact and if another boat is in their docking spot (most places on the canals are free to dock) then you will have to wait a little bit more. Make sure you are aware of when the last boat comes and at which stop it ends; you don't want to get stuck far from your place and have to get a taxi or a bus/tram, much less walk. Tips: . You can bring a small lunch to eat on board; this information comes from their staff at the Vondelpark ticket booth. . If you plan on visiting the Gassan diamond store which is free with your ticket purchase, know that you will have to attend a sales pitch. However you can leave at any time and go across the main building to get a free coffee or tea from their very nice machines and use their clean restrooms (WC).
We had a 5 day visit in Amsterdam and spent our first day taking the Boat ride so we could learn the lay out of the city. They take you to several different neighborhoods. The ride is a total of 2 hours if you don’t get off at any of the stops. We loved checking out the Flea Market where we had a wonderful breakfast at a restaurant called “Waterloo”. This is also the Jewish district of the city. We also enjoyed the stop where several of the major museums are located. Let yourself get lost in Amsterdam and enjoy the local color. The audio guide on the boat is in several languages and provides fun facts about the area. Be prepared to meet the friendly locals.
Zeer leuke daguitstap gehad met dit concept. Eerst de hop on hop off boot genomen.
